Fatihi Amin considered as oud of the most famous oud makers in 20th and 21th century
He was born in the city of Aswan- Egypt in 1937, after 5 years he moved to Cairo
He started the oud making as a hobby when he was in the primary school in 1952.
At Mr Ahmad Mohammad’s workshop for oud production, which was one of best oud makers in that time. He spent 4 years there until he moved to Mr Gameel George’s workshop for another 4 years until he opened his independent workshop in 1964.
His Innovations in Oud making:
- An instrument similar to the oud and he called it Jawharia, the name refers to Dr.Abdullatif Jawher the famous bouzouki player.
- He innovated an Oud with a Kanoun’s tuning pegs behind the headstock.
- An Oud with a small sound box and a neck similar to Guitar’s Neck.
- A bass Oud based on Professor Dr.Abdulmajeed Seliem designs.
- An instrument similar to the Egyptian Instrument Rababa but with four strings as Violin.
- Mr Fatihy Amins has a famous saying: the Quality of Oud’s sound not only depends on the type of the wood used in manufacturing. It depends on the manufacture himself.
- The good experience of the Oud maker can make him produce an instrument with low quality of wood but with a high quality of sound.
- There are many Ouds in the market made of high quality woods but with a senseless sound.
